Nicholas Giardina, PE

Director of Transportation and Public Infrastructure

Nicholas Giardina brings over 35 years of experience in transportation engineering, including highway and site design, to his role as the Director of Transportation and Public Infrastructure at BL Companies. Nick started his career with the Connecticut Department of Transportation (CT DOT), where he spent over a decade as a lead project engineer in the highway design unit. During this time, he oversaw a diverse range of projects, including interchange and intersection improvements, bridge replacements, at-grade railroad crossings, and highway resurfacing and safety improvements.

Over ten years ago, an opportunity to join BL Companies and help lead and grow the firm’s Hartford office sparked his interest, and he eagerly embraced the company’s employee-ownership culture. As Director of Transportation and Public Infrastructure, Nick is responsible for supervising the highway group, bridge group, bridge inspection team, construction inspection team, and CT DOT liaison teams, overseeing the entire public infrastructure realm at BL Companies.

Nick places great trust in his team, empowering them to excel in their roles. He strikes a balance between providing guidance and allowing his team members the freedom to perform their tasks effectively. Learning from both positive and negative experiences is crucial to Nick, as he believes in building upon successes while drawing valuable lessons from challenges.

Born and raised in Connecticut, Nick’s roots run deep in the region. While BL Companies had substantial work opportunities in Connecticut, Nick also relished the chance to expand the company’s reach into other parts of New England and throughout the country. As an organic firm, BL Companies prioritizes growth through cultivation rather than acquisition, a philosophy that resonates with Nick.

Outside of his responsibilities at BL Companies, Nick enjoys embracing challenges in his personal life. He finds solace in outdoor activities like golf, skiing, mountain biking, hiking and traveling. The constant pursuit of new experiences aligns with his personality, as he prefers to stay active and engaged rather than sitting still.
