Hingham Municipal Light Plant Solar Installation
Hingham, Massachusetts
Hingham Municipal Light Plant (HMLP) chose BL Companies to illuminate their future with cutting-edge solar technology. Our task was to design roof-mounted solar arrays for the existing HMLP facility and a brand-new carport, transforming ordinary spaces into sources of sustainable energy. These solar arrays will be tied to the building’s electrical panel.
As part of the work, a structural analysis of the existing roof was performed to verify adequate capacity to carry the additional weight of the solar panels. BL Companies also provided electrical engineering for this project, which included wiring distribution, inverter selection and design of the electrical connection to the building’s electrical service. We also prepared land development plans showing the site improvements required to support the construction of the carport. These modifications included landscaping, demolition, erosion control and hardscape improvements.
The collaborative efforts between BL Companies electrical and civil teams resulted in the design of two electric vehicle (EV) charging stations strategically positioned at each end of the carport. These EV chargers were connected to the building’s electrical system.
