State University of New York On-Call Utility Mark-out
Stony Brook, NY
Agility – the ability of our team to be flexible, proactive, and decisive in a constantly evolving environment – is what makes our on-call partnership with Stony Brook University so successful.
Stony Brook University, part of the State University of New York system, contains 123 buildings on 1,100 acres. Since its founding in 1964, the University has grown tremendously. This growth, coupled with the establishment of the University Hospital in 1980, created the need for on-campus engineering services at the major research university.
Since 2004, BL Companies has provided utility mark-out and ground penetrating radar services on an on-call basis. The original contract was for five years, which was followed by two more consecutive five-year term agreements for utility mark-out, extending to 2024. With rapid response time being a critical criterion for this contract, mark-out technicians are available within two hours of notification for emergency after-hour services and twenty-four hours a day to provide mark-out for daily scheduled work.
BL Companies utilizes electro-magnetic induction and ground penetrating radar to locate and mark underground utilities within a specific site. When required, borings or test pits are performed to further aid in the location of the underground facilities. Work has been performed in a wide variety of locations within the University campus.
